Having set myself the goal of securing a paid board role within a year, I was intentional about completing the Black on Board course, led by the exceptionally brilliant Lara Oyedele. The insights I gained about how to think and behave like a board member from the get go, in a small group of talented peers, were invaluable. The activities were practical and the robust feedback was the tough love I needed to get clarity on my why so I could deliver on the how and stand out from the crowd.

By the end of the course I was ready. And while my first two attempts weren’t successful, I was told I gave a good account of myself and I learned a lot from the process. Thanks to this and the ongoing encouragement from Lara and my peers, I came away feeling confident it was only a matter of time for me.

Just over a year later I've secured two new appointments that align with my passions and skills. Black on Board played a pivotal role in this achievement and I'm looking forward to serving both boards, as well as remaining a part of the wonderful community Lara has built.

Lara's training course is a MUST for anyone wanting to progress their career into a NED role. The sessions are great, at the right level, with lots of time included to ask questions, along with homework and 1-2-1 support afterward.

Wow wow wow, where and how do I begin to write this review.
Meeting Lara was one of the best things that happened to our organisation, it had always been a struggle to find the right board of directors, until I met Lara. Suddenly everything made sense, she's clear, concise and most importantly, she worked in a very Dyslexic friendly way.

With WhatsApp reminders, for meetings, follow up with phone call. Within a short space of time, we had recruited 3 board of directors.

The process was very smooth and extremely professional.
