I was given an approval for a mortgage in the form of a decision in principal to buy an investment property.
While completing over a period of 6 weeks, BM requested payslips first, then a week later more payslips, then another week later proof of investment income, then after another week all the data in a specific format on one of their own templates.
Eventually was told they would not give me the mortgage due to having too much unsecured debt, even though this was declared at the time of application. I offered to pay some of the unsecured debt to get the mortgage. The answer I was given was still no but I could appeal.
So to sum it up, I have a credit rating of 1000/1000 on clear score, an experienced landlord with proven history, already have a mortgage with BM and have so for many years, I was putting down a 25-30% deposit and to top it all off I had the funds to buy the property outright. Still the answer was no even after approval.
I have no idea how this mortgage company is still in business. Even if they have the better deals, don’t waste your time with them unless you have a firm backup plan as they will mess you around and destroy your sanity.

Dreadful customer service
Dreadful customer service. Operating in the dark ages with everything done via post or phone. It took three phonecalls just to get a mortgage statement... The majority of customer service reps I spoke to were rude and abrupt, though a couple were helpful - the women were helpful, the men were not. Will be moving my mortgage away asap.
Disgusting tactics
Disgusting practices, should you wish to pay off more than 10% of your mortgage after your fixed rate they will force you to pay 9.59% on your remaining balance for a whole month before they allow to switch to another product. Sending my monthly rate from £195 to £783 just because I would like to reduce my debt. How is this industry “regulated” it’s criminal, any other service operating like this would go bust but banks are more powerful than government in the UK!
Spoke too fast not good English
Couldn't understand the agent on the phone🙄 I asked her to speak slower which she did for 10 seconds then spoke so fast in what she obviously thought was English😪...

With the company now since 2006, they have stuck with me through some very difficult times. Never had a problem getting through to someone, they have always tried to work with me. Staff there are excellent always willing to listen and help where they can.

I spoke to quite an abrupt customer service agent. I was polite as I requested some information, but she was rather agressive and bordering on rude. Birmingham Midshires and Lloyds group need to remember that they are dealing with customers who are the only reason they exist in business. Get a grip and get some training done!

Trying to get threw to Birmingham midshires morgage to discuss with them payments but trying to get threw is scandalous. They say there there to help in circumstances but no one there to take your calls impossible for anyone to get threw so how that customer service or satisfaction very poor service for anyone trying to contact them 0808145 0372 how's that there to help your call when no one there to answer

Our family find themselves in a situation whereby we, because of family illness, have to sell our properties.
Birmingham Midshires listened to our story, and waived all early repayment charges on our mortgage.
Thanks to Tosin (Customer Services) for listening and even filling in the forms for us.
I have to disagree with the majority of the negative comments in this case.
Missed payment by a day equates to a month
I have been paying my month payments on time ever since 2021 and however due to some unforeseen reason when Birmingham Midshires represented their monthly debit to my bank in September (2023) it denied them payment with insufficient funds. I immediately corrected this and then few days later rang Birmingham Midshires to say why they had not represented their request for payment. The lady informed me that they do not represent for another 8 days, I said that seems like a very long time in this day any age of technology and instant banking. She seemed oblivious to my remark and gave me a blanket response and asked if I was having difficulties in paying. I said if I was, I won’t be ringing you to make the payment I could have waited.
I thought nothing of until recently when it got flagged in my credit search as missed payment, so I rang the Birmingham Midshires and after a long wait someone answered. This individual was not interested in addressing my concern but quoted the regulatory services and said they have been told by them to inform the credit agency for any missed payment. I said its not missed but just missed by a day. He said you missed it by a month. Payment due on 25th of the month paid on 3rd of next month equate to a month because it gone over into next month. Nothing to do with me and repeatedly quoted the regulatory body. I said I need to speak with someone in high authority and he said they will tell you the same I said fair enough, but I will go up the chain.
He registered my compliant with disdain and contempt that I had the audacity to challenge his authority and always talk over me. I insisted that I am not blaming him but disagree with how the company treats its customers. And He seem totally unconcerned. In the end I resigned to the complaint and now waiting for the complaint manager to contact me in few days’ times. I seriously think that Birmingham Midshires is condescending, arrogant and to the point of being rude to their customers. They don’t care about pleasing their customers or they have not trained their customer services staff in how to ensure customer are happy and satisfied.
Worst bank ever

Recorded message says 20 min wait to speak to customer services. Train more staff! Disrespectful to customers and the staff having to deal with the demand.
Chaos
I’m not sure where to begin. I am now on my 5th customer service employee and have been on the phone for 2 hours and 5 minutes altogether. The irony is I am trying to raise a complaint and every time I speak to somebody in the so called complaints department they either put me on hold or disconnect. There appears to be huge confusion between whether I should be talking to the Lloyds division, Scottish Widow or Saga or Birmingham Midshire and who do not share the record of the others. It is a frightening example of a company in complete chaos. The staff are poorly trained and are clearly limited in what information they can offer. Bank with this organisation at your peril!
Exploitative and crafty
Exploitative and crafty. You have to use a mortgage advisor to deal with these guys, even as an existing customer. Why? So they can charge more than they should be charging.
Look after customers better
I regrettably wish I could of got out but am stuck with 2 mortgages here. To get new deal I cant choose from list must pay advisor every time costing me thousands over years. Should be 1 star but for customer service staff. The list advisors has from here I pick from like TMW list had 5.19 on list I took on other deal. Brilliant all round, Easy stress/cost free.
Increased rates during a fix rate mortgage!!!
BH have sent a letter with 4 weeks notice that my monthly premium is going to nearly double, I’m currently in a fixed term for another year and they’re raising the costs. They’re now ignoring me emails and the phone calls are on hold for so long that I need to return to work.
I’m at my wits end and none of them will help me or fix the issue as they’re out of contract by doing this, I’ve never missed a payment and always added extra to be safe and bring down my amount.
