M and S bank used to be reliable with good service and friendly and helpful real people to talk to. Unfortunately, with bits of the company being sold off, it feels like we're no longer wanted and are a bit of a nuisance.
It's fine if you're happy to push buttons or 'chat' to a robot and if your query is straightforward. So much, so much like many other mediocre companies. M and S banking had a fantastic reputation but it's been trashed by recent moves on its banking and credit card side.

Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless. Getting any kind of support is a nightmare. Customer chat doesn't work. Out of three options to pay your balance, only one works. Reactivating access on a new device is impossible as "verify with selfie" function has been down for weeks now. It's clear no one is monitoring these services.

Once you have been approved it straight forward all the way. I have had no problems with my card. I like the fact that you have a choice of managing your card online or by app. You can manage your account very easily and would recommend the M&S credit card.

Approved for a credit card I can’t actually use
I applied for an M&S credit card specifically for the 0% purchase offer and was approved. Since then, trying to actually activate and use the card has been an absolute shambles.
The new digital ID verification process has failed repeatedly. Initially I was told it was because my application said “First name Surname” while my driving licence shows my full name including my middle name. That was corrected whilst on the phone, I was then locked out for 24 hours because I had apparently tried too many times as the system tells you to try again.
I waited 24 hours and tried again today, without any luck, so I called again. Since then I have been told different things by different advisers. First I was told my selfie didn’t work but if I tried again it definitely would. Well… guess what?! Fail.
Then after calling again I was told the lighting wasn’t good enough. I have followed the advice given, changed the lighting, changed how I had my hair and attempted the identification process several more times. It still simply says “identification failed.”
I have now spent a considerable amount of time on the phone to M&S, including being disconnected during one call, and have received conflicting information about whether the card can be activated another way. I was told it could be activated in exceptional circumstances by one advisor, but others just hold the line that I must use the app - which won’t register me. Marvellous.
The particularly frustrating part is that M&S have already carried out the credit application and I now have the account/search on my credit file, yet I cannot access the product I have been approved for because their automated identification system cannot verify me.
I understand the need for security and identity checks. What I do not understand is why there appears to be no straightforward manual alternative when the automated system repeatedly fails for a genuine customer who has valid photographic ID.
Someone is currently looking into whether there is a workaround, so I will update this review depending on the outcome. But as things currently stand, the experience has been extremely frustrating and has taken multiple calls and repeated identification attempts simply to activate an already-approved credit card.
For a bank, there really needs to be a reliable alternative when digital facial verification doesn’t work and for customers still operating with a Nokia 3210!
EDIT: After calling again for the 7th time in two days, I managed to express my frustration and the first thing I was told was that the card would be activated over the phone. Hallelujah.
However, I still can't use the app because apparently I need to submit another form of ID. My passport is currently being renewed, so that will have to wait... the saga continues.

Straight forward application process…
Straight forward application process all done online, my only gripe is you can't apply to increase your credit limit for 6 months, the small credit limit is hitting my credit rating hard.

Everything, wrong amount was transfer, putting my other card in credit and being frozen., money returned 5 days ago, and still waiting for the amount to be credited back, charged a fee when they where advertising no fee, spoken twice now and they just don't get it..
