Just purchased an item from the auction house, found this very easy. Jasmine who has been very helpful had my delivery well looked after & I received my goods in perfect condition. I recommend them highly & I will certainly purchase from them again with anything that interests me.

Really pleased with their service - friendly staff, good prices, good communication. They sold my china collection for more than I ever thought it would be worth!

OK I Had an issue with buying some unused QEII mint unused postage stamps that were some way short of the described face value -- I did mention it and they have apologized and we came to a gentlemans agreement

Model was described as "appearing mint and unused within its original display box"

It was far from mint. Decals peeling off, scratches, loose side window, missing mudflap and broken mirror.

It was my first experience with a auction house...probably last. I could get same model for 20 more of ebay in really mint condition

How would you like to buy from an auction house that sells you a product that is clearly defective and should have been listed as A/F? Then, when it arrives, it is broken in two. And the auction house says (paraphrasing) “not interested. You should have read our Ts and Cs which exclude everything!” If that all sounds good, you are in the right place, because that is exactly what East Bristol Auctions has just done to me. Customer satisfaction is clearly an alien concept in this part of Bristol!
The item in question was a six-layer Chinese puzzle ball that I won in an auction on 14th May. For those not familiar with this type of object, it is a ball of soft stone that has another ball inside it and another and another up to 6 layers (sometimes even more.) It is intricately carved and it is rather cleverly created in one piece with no joins. It arrived some weeks later on 3rd June. As soon as the box was opened there was clearly a problem. There was a great chunk missing from the outside layer. That chunk was in the packaging. So, it arrived broken, of that there can be no question. Then on closer examination it was very quickly clear that the 5th layer was also damaged with large parts missing. Those parts were not in the packaging, so it was obvious that the 5th layer had been broken before the sale. Any auctioneer / assessor who missed such obvious damage was not doing their job properly! The damaged 5th layer was very quickly spotted by my wife and because the item was defective, I think it is clear it should have been listed as A/F ( a code used in auctions for “as found” meaning the piece is damaged or imperfect.) Hence my belief that the item was both defective (5th layer) and broken (outer layer.)
I contacted East Bristol expecting a helpful response and to get my money back. Instead, a Mr Khan told me that they didn’t do returns or refunds, because their Ts and Cs prevented them being liable for anything. I have copied one of their blanket exclusion clauses below. So just ask yourself if you want to deal with people who have to hide behind such a clause? Customer satisfaction? I think not!
“Subject to the foregoing neither we the auctioneer nor our employees or agents nor the seller accept liability for the correctness of such opinions and all conditions and warranties, whether relating to description, condition or quality of lots, express, implied or statutory, and hereby excluded. This condition or quality of lots, express, implied or statutory, are hereby excluded.”

Bidding, another positive is the 10 day follow on sale
(after sales ) so any unsold items go on timed bidding

In June 2020, we bought one of 4 perfectly described Herman Miller Studio7.5 Mirra 2 chairs which by the very description had to have been manufactured after 2016.
We paid over £330 for the chair after all costs and then had to pick it up.
Just a month later the seat split and I guessed as I had bought it at auction that I was just unlucky.
After getting a new seat from the manufacturer it didn’t fit, lo and behold the Mirra 2 chair bought from a reputable auction site specialising in 20 th century design amongst other things such as toys etc, is not a Mirra 2 but a much older (2003 on) Mirra chair worth substantially less than the described Mirra 2.
Company doesn’t want to know, accepts no responsibility, blames the vendor, and is not bothered as they say they are not responsible for any of their descriptions.
Even if we could have attended the auction which we were not allowed to, I am not an expert in 20 th century design and could not have worked out that the description was misleading, unlike the auction house which supposedly specialises in these items.
Anyway they accept no responsibility and we are now left with a chair we did not set out to buy and which is much older at a hugely inflated cost to start with and now with a new seat is even more expensive than a Mirra 2 chair as new. They have offered us a percentage of the commission back , but as this chair is not worth anything like the one actually advertised, we are not happy and taking it further with trading standards.
This company recently had a well advertised sale for a pair of Gandhi’s glasses, hope the description was correct, as otherwise they may well have been John Smiths from year 2.
If you buy from them please be aware that they do not stand by any description and quote terms and conditions after stating this vey fact, so do not believe a word of the descriptions as it may not be what you thought you were buying.
I’m about to set up a company selling authentic superstar autographs that I’ve just bought in bulk from China, but I’ll be covered as my terms and conditions will state that I’m not responsible or liable for any description.
Be warned as they are also not associated with any auction house trade bodies and have no escalation processes or qualms about maintaining any reputations
