John at Asset Wealth Protection took care of Lasting Powers of Attorney for my wife and me. Service was exceptional and we would highly recommend him.

Please be warned that my family had a very bad experience with John Kane of AWP on the other side - AFTER we lost a loved one. He was unprofessional and terribly unkind - not what you need when you are grieving.  His actions and behaviour resulted in alarming levels of stress and upset for my father and myself, all on top of grief.  John was supposed to be the professional, and badly let us down.  Whilst John might be really helpful in explaining complicated things, it may be that he is making it more complicated than it needs to be in order to make more money out of you.

If you're considering going to John at AWP, or any other 'estate planner', you may want to think again.  If you have already had work done by John or another estate planner, it might be wise to have a reputable recommended specialist solicitor check the structure and documents.  It might just save you or your loved ones a huge amount of stress further down the line. 

My father experienced issues with AWP's planning and structure soon after my mother' death, when the paperwork arrived. I got involved in order to support him. We endured 10 months of undescribable stress dealing with AWP's recommended 'Countrywide', on top of grief.  My father eventually moved to specialist Will and Trust solicitors, who were highly regarded and recommended by friends.  Three different solicitors (from two different legal firms....we got a second opinion)  saw the relevant documents. We were devasted to be advised that:

The documemts (instructed by John and drafted by Countrywide) were a mess, that they were very unusually drafted and, with over 30 years experience of 'trying to decipher badly worded documents like these', whatever the intended outcome had been, they had 'never seen anything like them'. 

The documents had been set up in a very complicated and expensive way. (Countrywide later admitted they were complicated but defended them).

We were warned that so called estate planners, like John, are all too common. They said that these estate planners claim to be experts but they don't have expert knowledge. They said that these estate planners can advise you incorrectly, charge you ££££s and it's only after you / your loved one has died that you / your family find out the mess they have got you into.  It then costs even more to undo the damange.  Feeling completely distraught about all this, on top of grief, I asked for their advice on complaining to John, but they warned us that as the area is unregulated, they felt that I wouldn't get anywhere.   Sadly, they were right.

I had called and emailed John many times for help over several months but he would simply tell me to talk to Countrywide, yet Countrywide said they had followed John's instructions and I needed to talk to him.  Many months later, John said that, due to confidentiality, he could not discuss anything with me (even though during one phone call when I was challenging him, he had told me something that he believed to be confidential....'I'm not supposed to tell you this' type scenario, so he didn't even maintain confidentiality).   BUT he failed to mention general confidentiality as soon as he knew there were issues.  John was clearly uninterested in trying to help my father because, despite knowing full well how much my father was struggling, at no point during our 10 month ordeal did John reach out to my father to try to help. His excuse....he 'does not offer any ongoing service agreement'.   After several months of trying to get help from John I stopped because I found his tone intimidating and arrogant and he made me feel nervous.  We felt that he could not have cared less.  He had taken ££££s of my father's money and we felt that he was no longer interested, unless he could sell more services. Interestingly, John DID call my father out of the blue after I tried to complain on his behalf, which left my father terribly distressed.  Whatever John said, my father described how it felt like John was trying to put words into his mouth. On being challenged about this, John offered no apology and defended the call.  Doing this to a grieving 81 year old man was absolutely despicable.

My father complained to John.  Unfortunately, as we expected, we got nowhere.  John's response defended everything.  He showed no remorse, but claimed that he had remained professional!   His response raised further issues and questions but we had to call it a day as we were mentally burnt out and we had suffered too much already, plus we didn't feel able to challenge John further having seen how he responsed to challenges and complaints, and we realised that the new solicitors were right. At least we were now sorted. We wondered if John had made us feel like this in order to prevent us from challenging him further. I reported him to STEP, but they clearly aren't there to help folk like us.

My partner and I realised that we needed to get our financial affairs in order so we turned to John Kane of Asset Wealth Protection to set up our financial and medical power of attorney.

He took the time to explain everything in detail to us, particularly as our daughter lives in Australia which makes things a lot more complicated.

Nothing was too much trouble for John including our hectic work schedule which made it difficult for John to speak to us both at the same time and in the same place.

We wouldnt hesitate to recommend John for wills and lasting powers of attorney.

We were introduced to John at Asset Wealth Protection Ltd., as the person who could help us replace an outdated will, provide Lasting Powers of Attorney and a Trust. I must admit I was not looking forward to sorting it all out, but there was no need to worry.
