Costly windows, terrible customer service - avoid
What a terribly disappointing service from what appeared from their website to be a premium company!
We hired ArtSteel to create French windows for the bedroom, in addition to kitchen doors and windows, however they made so many mistakes on the French windows, which cost us money in plastering and redecoration, that we cancelled most of our order and found an alternate supplier for the kitchen doors and windows.
The French windows were a costly saga.
Despite carefully specifying their colour on the original order, they turned up after many weeks in standard black. As they'd been fitted before we saw they were the wrong colour, they had to be removed, damaging the surrounding new plasterwork and leaving us with a windowless dark bedroom for weeks while the windows were shipped back to Poland to be repainted.
Weeks later the windows were returned in the correct colour and once again fitted, following which we replastered and redecorated. We then noticed that damp was penetrating under the window into the new plasterwork.
In addition the window had been incorrectly fitted so the holding bolts didn't align with the holes in the frame, so the window couldn't be locked. Also the right hand door wouldn't stay open without us wedging something heavy in front of it, whereas the LH door stayed in position when opened. All very unsatisfactory for windows that cost a fortune.
After much chasing on our part and considerable 'radio silence' on the part of ArtSteel, we finally managed to convey our dissatisfaction and were told that the fitters would visit to sort out the problem. When no fitters arrived we had to chase again, to be told that weather bars now had to be ordered and fitted to the windows to resolve the water penetration problem.
After more waiting, the fitters were scheduled to return to fix the problem. When they arrived we enquired as to whether they could do the necessary work without removing the window and ruining the new plasterwork and decoration. We were assured that the job could be done without further damage. When we returned from work, we were shocked to see that the newly plastered window frame had once again been hacked out to undertake the window repair - requiring it to be replastered and decorated for the third time. Not only that but the fitters had badly scratched our brand new wooden floor and left buildeing dust and debris all over the bedroom floor.
The repair did not fix the right hand door, which still swings closed.
When we complained to ArtSteel and asked for some compensation given the terrible customer service, the long delays, additional costs in replastering and redecorating, damage to our new floor and the resulting delays to our building project, we were told they'd...
'checked with the accounts and it's really hard for us to process cash backs on closed orders'. Artsteel have defiantly defended their position as having 'resolved the problems with the doors'.
I cannot recommend this company unless you are looking for an expensive product, which isn't delivered on time, is in the wrong colour and has to be refitted a number of times, doing damage to your property on each occasion. If that's what you're looking for, you've found the perfect supplier!
