Daughter happy with the class
My daughter has been attending the weekly art class, and the occasional holiday workshop for a while now, and she really enjoys the time she spends there. She loves having an outlet to express her creativity, and she likes the variety of projects that she works on. She even got her painting shown at an exhibition, which was really nice. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. I only wish the class was a bit longer - like two hours.

Exceptional art class. Engaging, inspiring and let the kids ideas run wild whilst providing professional and helpful guidance. Would go again but we’re moving… hope we can find one near our new home. definitely recommend!

My son absolutely loves his classes at Art K. Every week he’s excited about what he is doing. The teachers are great, encouraging, really friendly and always talk to parents at the end of class.

Pupils Regularly Mocked Jesus in Class
Our children loved their time at Art K. Their teacher Harshita was friendly and helpful — and our kids learned a lot! While we have nothing terrible to say about Harshita or her teaching methods, we do have one negative thing to say about our children’s experience in her classroom — and why we’re reluctant to enrol them again. While our children loved the class, they began feeling uncomfortable whenever some of the pupils began mocking the God that we worship.
We’re a Christian family, and some of their peers began using the name of our God, Jesus, with utter disrespect. We’re unsure if Harshita or her assistant heard any of this or not, but this wasn’t a one off occurrence. This happened regularly!
We know it’s common for adults to use Jesus’ name flippantly and disrespectfully, but we didn’t pay to have our kids learn art and hear their God’s name being ridiculed and mocked in a small, weekly classroom setting.
We know that Muslim parents wouldn’t tolerate having their children hear Allah or Muhammad’s name used in a derogatory manner during each class. We’re certain that you’d hear from the parents themselves if anyone mocked Allah or Muhammad’s name in class. I’m sure this also holds true for others following different religions. We should respect everyone’s faith and beliefs.
Our children spoke to the ones who continually used Jesus’ name in a derogatory manner, but they wouldn’t stop. One young boy even said (I’m paraphrasing) that if he went to heaven he’d stab and kill Jesus.
While many would turn a blind eye to this behaviour, we cannot. It’s shameful that the actions of some pupils have prevented us from 100% supporting Art K.
We don’t want our children hearing this stuff anymore, and we obviously can’t expect our young kids to personally stand up for their beliefs like we’re doing today.
We hope that Art K will be able to address this issue with their art teachers and staff, so that Christian pupils will never feel uncomfortable again due to the actions of other peers.

Thank you for bringing this behaviour to our attention. Our child safeguarding policy asks that parents talk to our art leader at end of session to help smooth out any concerns without delay avoiding the need to wait for a response from a review. We have now spoken outside the confines of this public review advising that we have reviewed all sketch books for any evidence of 'killing' being communicated through art (which there was none), and proposed a couple of monitoring and managing solutions for you. We await your guidance. We never accept use of words like 'killing' at art-K. We have students as young as 6, and it is our policy to protect them from being exposed to this in a supervised environment but also to show by example 'conflict resolution' between students who may still be developing these 'life skills'. If you choose to continue to venture out to art-K for art lessons next term, our art leader will work with you to reassure you, as we would with all faiths and/or beliefs equally from whatever background. Our equalities and inclusion policy is also a child safeguarding issue - which is published in the footer of our home page. You can also write to customerservice@art-co.uk.
