A disgrace
A disgrace. At the same time, UK and European Banks provide interest rates of 4-5% and no fees for the savings accounts, Alpha Bank charges 4 euros for depositing money into your account and zero interest towards savings.

Started out great, downhill from there
Initially, opening an account was smooth sailing with friendly, personalised service from the branch manager.
On New Year's Eve however, my wallet was stolen in a crowded bus. Reporting the card stolen was straightforward, but trying to reclaim the 60 Euros the thief had paid out to himself at a local betting parlour has been anything but, as has also the experience of trying to reconnect my replacement debit card with Alpha's very clunky mobile app. After 45 minutes speaking with an agent on the service line (thankfully in English), no resolution. A savvy friend of mine had all the overly complicated steps done in 5 minutes. Alpha Bank is totally underwhelming, overly complex and unnecessarily time-consuming.
Bad e-banking and bad personal service.
I've been with Alpha for 8 years.
1.They keep closing neighborhood branches to push us to e-banking which would be fine except they have the worst e-banking on the planet. They have never heard of UX design. They ask you to evaluate their employees but it's their organizational and computer system that is rotten not their employees.
2. They know which IBAN corresponds to what company. The name shows up automatically at the time of payment. But when I download the transaction data for the month/year it is obfuscated. Instead of writing the payee name as "insurance company X" or "AADE, tax office" they will write "GRT090909078" even if you have added a personal note through the web interface for this payment. They will hide it. So it takes hours to track down expenses.
3. You can't visit a branch without an appointment. They give you an appointment two weeks away. You go to the appointment and then they tell you some "paper" is missing or that the service you are requesting is no longer available at this branch and you have to make a new appointment another two weeks away. You ask what branch has this service I want and they tell you that you have to call (yes phone call in 2024) each branch to find out.
4. They kill you in fees even though it's illegal. Wise charges me nothing to send money to Alpha or N26. Alpha though, will charge me 3 euros to receive it. N26 won't.
5. Their interest rates on savings accounts are below 1% (if any) while foreign european banks give 4% without term limitations (March 2024)

Used to be a decent bank that threw the years now is the worst in Greece.
Hidden fees, bad communications, tricky and many times illegal techniques to get as much as possible from the client and in the same time to offer back the minimum possible (often 0). Avoid at any cost!

Μόνο προβλήματα και κανένα πλεονέκτημα τα τελευταία χρόνια από την Alpha Bank. Οι προθεσμιακός τους πλέον στην διακοπή παιρνει λεφτά και από το αρχικό κεφάλαιο και αυτό το περνάνε στο ντούκου όταν προσπαθούν να στο πουλήσουν. Παίρνω τα λεφτά μου από εκεί και κλείνω τους λογαριασμούς μου σήμερα κιόλας!

Καταστημα Κιλκις, 21ης ιουνιου.Ανεκδιηγητοι, ο διευθυντης αβτι να προσπαθει να βοηθησει και να κατανοησει το προβλημα και να βρει μια λυση σου φωναζει σαν να εισαι χαζος οτι δεν υπαρχει καμια λυση ουτε μπρος ουτε πισω. Δεν θελουν να εξυπηρετουν και να βοηθουν αργοσχολοι ουτε η μηδαμινη προσπαθεια να βρεθει λυση στο προβλημα. Ειναι απολυτα ξεκαθαρο στον ιστοτοπο της εταιριας οτι η ηλεκτρονικη ταυτοτητα (egov wallet) οτι ισχυει σαν εγγραφο ταυτοποιησης, και φυσικα ειναι και νομοθετημενα δεκτο εγγραφο αντι της ταυτοτητας, οι 2 αυτοι κυριοι ο διευθυντης και ο υπαλληλος που ειχα το ραντεβου που φαινεται να ειχε το μυαλο του στα πολιτικα και που εκλεχθηκε ο αδερφος του παρα να βοηθησει, αρνουνταν κατηγορηματικα να το δεχτουν σαν εγγραφο ταυτοποιησης και να με εξυπηρετησουν. Ενω καποιους κιλκισιωτες μπαινουν στο καταστημα και δεν τους ελεγχουν και τους εξυπηρετουβ

Alpha Bank's customer service seems to have sprung out of a bad joke. I have been trying to update my personal details and get a repacement card since early September. Today, 20/11/2023, after 2.5 MONTHS i am still trying. Have spent hours on the phone with them and have paid several visits to branches. My details have been updated but i still don't have the card. I have gone to a branch twice just for that and the clerk made the application for me in my presence. The system still shows that no application has been made. Customer service keeps telling me to do it on my own through the app which does not work. They finally told me that i have to go back to the branch.
Also, there is some money trapped in an account that has been frozen as it has not moved for a long time (former Citybank account). For this, i had to go specificaly to Glyfada Lazaraki branch, where i met the rudest staff i have ever seen in a bank and some of the rudest in general. I walked in seeing 3 ladies doing absolutely nothing. I tried to express the issue and they kept interrupting me, giving a completely irrelevant answer. When i told them to "PLEASE let me finish", they told me that i had to book an appointment. The appointment given was for 3 WEEKS later. Absolute joke. I wonder how they keep doing businees.
P.S. i live abroad, not in Greece, so i had to go through the same process of updating my details with other banks too. Just to compare with the competition, Eurobank booked me an appointment in 5 days, i went to my local branch and after 1 hour and 5 minutes i walk out with everything done properly AND my new card in hand.
Where to start .......Take corruption…
Where to start .......Take corruption to a new level , make Pablo Escobar look like Mother Theresa ......Not a bank in any real way or form , rather a loan shark , backed by an either more corrupt Cypriot legal system. No transparency in their dealings or systems , no management of accounts..... Completely inept and mismanaged by inefficient fools in suits. If you put a suit on a monkey, is it still a monkey?
Do not ever deal with this bank in anyway shape or form.........You have been warned.
Missed video call
I had noticed on my e-banking that a new joint account with my dad was created which I had not requested.
I need a new debit account and they told me that they cannot provide this service online and that I needed to go to my local branch. I told them that I am abroad and cannot make it for a couple of months in which case suggested that I do it through video call.
I received an invite and a reminder the previous day and logged on the call on time, actually a minute early, and waited for 15 minutes and nobody turned up.
What is frustrating is that nobody called me to notify me and not even an apology. In order to get an appointment I had to wait for 3 whole weeks.
Totally insensitive and inept.
I have noticed that the bank's score on her cannot be any worse. Do they sweat about it. Nah!!!

I had struggled since Monday 25/9/2023 trying to change my withdrawal limit online but I couldn't receive the code via Viber to do it, although I was receiving fine the Viber code to enter my e-banking. I had made 15 calls to alphabank helpline and no one could help me. I had entered my e-banking 14 times and got stuck. I had gone to the bank twice and no one helped or listened. My last trip on Thursday, before I flew out of Greece on the same night, was finally successful. Mrs Theodora Mihalopoulou listened to the problem I had and although it took her an hour on the phone she managed to solve it. If Alpha bank had more staff members like Theodora all the clients would be satisfied. I recommend Theodora for an excellence award.

Absolutely disgraceful bank...they can't wait to help themselves to the 50 euros 'low activity' usage.
Emporiki Bank never did this...all they want to do is punish clients financially...clients who actually deposit money with them.
Totally disgraceful policies...good job they're not a UK bank as they would have no customers at all.

The digital branch team doesn't read your e-mails. They don't even look at the attachment. If the banks tries to start the relations with their potential client on the very first step like they do I can imagine what will be next. No thanx, but I don't want to have relations with such people.

Bank's priority is to make money from you without fair interest rates. Also the programms they offer you can not have the full eye on background. Greeks doesnt have any benefit at all to keep money in Greece and banks that act like that!

Imagine if anything happened to this poor cashier, the bank should close down then!!
Nearly €600 trapped in my bank account
Nearly €600 trapped in my bank account. Literally the most unhelpful, rude, arrogant members of staff I have ever encountered. The account has been frozen, three attempts to unblock it and still never seem to have enough paperwork to actually get my money out. Very frustrating and the UK division refuse to step in and help.
