A very similar experience happened to me as the previous reviews. This company scammed me out of $880 dollars. My worldwide CDW and supplementary insurance policy which I took out for the trip was not accepted, even though it was clearly stated in black and white in the booking, that the company's liability insurance can be waived if you present proof of other valid personal liability insurance. I complained to ACE and VIP Cars, the booking company, and they agreed with me, so ACE cars went through the motions of raising a refund of $880.96. The refund never happened. ACE claimed it was refunded to the card that the booking was made on, but that was a lie, which was easily disproved with bank statements and talking to the bank. ACE insisted it was a bank problem, even though they could produce no evidence the money was refunded. Someone at ACE pocketed that money and VIP washed their hands of it, saying that they had done all they could. I did think about making a denuncia against ACE with the Costa Rica consumer affairs office and the tourist board, but this is very difficult to do from overseas. I gave up trying to get my money back from ACE Costa Rica. They are are worst company I have ever hired a car from, and I urge anyone reading this to keep away from this company of crooks.

Avevo prenotato, pagando un sovrapprezzo per la polizza assicurativa globale, con Booking.com ma al momento del ritiro a San Josè - Alajuela in Costarica (Costa renta car è la società di noleggio) mi hanno obbligato a pagare altri 543 euro per una polizza -a loro dire- obbligatoria, senza la quale NON mi avrebbero consegnato l’auto, non ritenevano valida neppure la garanzia della carta di credito, ho provato ad insistere spiegando e facendo vedere il pagamento della polizza già effettuato ma l’addetto mi ha risposto che senza la loro polizza la macchina non l’avrebbe mai consegnata ed io avevo già pagato il noleggio, in quel modo avrei perso anche quei soldi. Era notte, lontano dall’aeroporto e dal centro abitato, stanco del lungo viaggio ho ceduto al ricatto della Costa rent car poi nei giorni successivi ho denunciato il tutto alla polizia giudiziaria locale (OIJ) come suggerito dalla nostra ambasciata in Costarica.

If I could give them negative stars I would. They are charging us $128.51 PER DAY for insurance in Costa Rica. They did not accept our third-party insurance and are charging this exorbitant rate for their private insurance. Not to mention the HUGE "hold fee" they charge. This has been the worst experience we've ever had and has begun our holiday on a bad foot. I would never, ever rent from these people. They were rude, unprofessional, and as my husband says, since we had already paid for the rental for the week: "Have you by the balls and can screw you any way they want."
