Several complaints about the experience include excessive notifications on the delivery process. It is not necessary to notify that order is being prepared, shipped, and delivered. This is multiplied by however many shipments my single order is turned into, 3 in my case. We had to return one item that required 2 factor authentication for a return where everywhere else an order number and receipt would be sufficient. The items are of good quality based on the items brand so I was happy with the. Items I ordered but not the process.

Went into a new one and prices were inflated and selection was poor

I shopped last night at the Academy store in Wichita Falls tx. They were having a 25%-50% off “SALE.” Turns out it wasn’t a sale.

It was a markup called a sale. When I removed the sale price tickets the items were marked $2-$3 higher than the original price of the items.

When you shop the sale price check what’s under the sale price they are showing. They made about $90 off of me.

Do not buy from Academy Sports. I ordered an Air Hockey table on Black Friday and was told it would be ready for pick-up on Friday 12/5. I drove 40 minutes to go and pick it up. After I arrived, I was told that the truck did not come in and it would be Monday. Okay whatever! Then on Saturday 12/6, I received notification they canceled my order because it was out of stock. I checked their website and you can still order the same air hockey table for the same price! Is this a scam? Or Is your inventory tracking system unable to provide real-time updates? Either way this experience has wasted my time and left me scrambling to find another air hockey table before Christmas. Due to this experience, I find your service quality to be unacceptable and I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Ordered item online, it was not what I expected. Tried to return it, had all original packaging, order number and receipt. Was shuffled to 3 different people, called corporate and 40 minutes later I walked out with my refund. If u buy something here make double sure it’s what u want because returning items here is a nightmare

I like shopping within their local store. Most of the time they have want I am wanting from them in stock.

I was looking for Winchester Supreme Elite PDX1 12 Gauge Shotshells, a home defense ammo. It's not cheap and it isn't readily available in my area. I took a chance I could find it in Oklahoma City and I set up a one hour pick up. Low and behold there was one box in stock, I paid online and set out to drive the best part of an hour away. And contrary to most of the reviews here, My order was ready pretty much when I got there ahead of schedule. In and out and happy. Can't complain.

What i have a problem is discounted item. There is a Columbia Jacket on sale for 40% , price on the tag was $65 it was tagged over the price on the tag showed $46. The store manager would not let me buy it at $46 with a 40% discount. It is unfair to mark up the price and give a discount. I have a picture off the tag. If you need it

purchased a traeger woodridge smoker online 11-10-25. Said it would arrive in Rock Hill SC 11-14. I get a tex @7:24 am it is Beining assembled I pic it up sat morning 11-15. In the mean time They put another hold on my card for the 1100- on 11-12 and 11-13. Mon the 17th they do it again. I called customer service on 11-18, and they said ever 7 days they put a hold on the card until its picked up. I said I picked it up on the 5th day her response the charges will fall off I said when she said 3 to 5 days. I will never by anything from them again absolutely absurd.

Having now seen the settlement of a gun related lawsuit,I better understand the odd behavior of staff in Hunting section. They don’t seem interested in the customer. Their only interest seems to be that paperwork is in order.I had to visit store, mostly to stand around redoing the same thing ,3 times in 11days to complete purchase.Staff actually complicated what should have been a straightforward transaction

Poor Customer Service - Will Not even Answer The Phone
I wanted to make a purchase from the Gadsden Alabama Academy Store yesterday. I wanted to see the item I was purchasing prior to the purchase and not just the pictures and description online. Before driving the 1/2 hour to the store, I called the Gadsden Store (256-439-6260) six times to see if the item I wanted was in stock. Despite all my efforts, I could only reach the automated answer line and was stuck holding on it. I was never able to contact a live associate at the Gadsden Store.

Thinking the store may be closed, I called the Academy Customer Service Number (888-922-2336) two times. I was again stuck with an automated answer line and left holding.

I then called the Trussville Alabama Store (205-661-5500). Wow, a real human answered the phone. I was informed that the Gadsden Store was open. I asked to leave my contact information and for the District Manager to return my call. I was put on hold and another associate came on the line. They stated they had attempted to call both the Gadsden Store and the District Manager and were unable to contact them.

This entire episode is a terrible reflection on Academy Sports + Outdoors and their customer service. If I am not valued as a customer, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

A week ago I purchased an older jon boat. It needed a few new parts like a bildge pump and a Aearator pump. I purchased both at a store in Clarksville Tn while looking they also had a bildge pump kit that was 14.99. I went home to install all the parts. Ended up I didn’t need the bildge pump kit and never opened it. I tried to return it last night at the store and because I didn’t keep the receipt they only wanted to give me 8.06 in return even though I was going to purchase 30.00 in fishing baits. I will never purchase from academy again even if I have to pay double

Ordered 2 items. Returned them both in same package by FedEx. Academy refunded 1 item refused to refund 2nd item, claiming they didn’t receive it. Whoever opened the box could not have helped but notice 2 items. They cheated me, then lied.

Today I was denied my constitutional right to purchase a firearm and my degree is in criminal justice with a minor in forensic science. I PASSED the background check as Academy Sports is a federally licensed firearms dealer.[FFL]. After waiting for over 30 minutes I was informed there is a "PROCESS" and I will be contacted. The background check was through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and was NOT told that I DID NOT PASS. I am a combat veteran and this is an ABOMINATION AND CRIME NO VETERAN SHOULD EVER BE SUBJECTED TO REGARDLESS OF COLOR. I have the right according to the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution which was ratified on December 15,1791. My Italian family members have filed a complaint with both the Attorney General and the District Attorney in contemplating legal action. The local news networks have been informed as well. To put my life on the line for this country ONLY to be denied my constitutional right UNDER FEDERAL LAW IS A CRIME AND A SHAME NO VETERAN SHOULD EVER BE SUBJECTED TO. THIS IS TRULY A DISRESPECTFUL DESPICABLE EXPERIENCE FOR ANY VETERAN REGARDLESS OF COLOR AND GENDER. Once again I have to ask one of my JEWISH friends to make a purchase that I HAVE BEEN DENIED TO. I BLED THE GROUND IN A FOREIGN LAND. If the manager is willing to address this matter I will do so without legal representation present. Magellan rain breaker jacket zipper fell apart almost immediately. A zipper broke after my first 10-hour flight, and another within two weeks of light use (less than 24 hrs of total wear time). Even worse, Academy refused to refund or exchange it unless I drove 3.5 hours back to the original store. They would not accept a mailed return or offer a reasonable solution. Very poor product quality and disappointing customer service

I bought some shirts there for the Virginia Tax Holiday and I was taxed. I asked about it and they said you shouldn't have been taxed. However... there is nothing we can do about it. Sorry and that was it. Very Upset..they didn't fix. I have my receipt and will be bringing it to the Virginia Department of Taxation for review. Wonder how many others this happened to! What Lack of Service!

What a waste of time trying to order on-line. Placed 4 orders for a pair of Asics that were in stock, and all four times it canceled because a fraud flag went up. I contacted my credit card company, and they assured me it wasn't them flagging. I make 3-4 daily purchases on my CC, and it never gets held up. I chatted with customer service 3 times, and they said the system is "automatic", and they have no control over whether an order gets flagged. The last CS I chatted with said she'd watch the order to make sure it goes through. I received a confirmation that it would go through (yay!0, only to get a note the next day saying the order was canceled once again (boo). I get the fraud concern, but when credit customers who make 100+ transactions a month like me get flagged, you know the system is way too sensitive. What a lousy experience.

Placed an online order and its never arrived. I’ve been given three different delivery dates, but nothing has come. I requested a refund, and they say I must wait until after the latest delivery date passes/ and return product for refund. I’m tired of waiting for an order that’s obviously been a- lost in transit, or b- never shipped. I just want my money back and they are refusing. Won’t shop there again!
