In 2025 we gave the consultant Aleisha a maximum budget and duration, style of comfort and the amount of hand-holding (private guide) and independence we needed to visit the Art Islands, plus a request to surprise us with fabulous experiences.
We had visited different areas in Japan before, once for 3 weeks with Inside Japan who were extraordinary back in 2018, and in 2019 on a short, packaged cheapy to a different area.
The 2025 Art Islands result was great.
Chauffeur airport pickup was the right choice after 14 hours flying through the night and Zentis Osaka hotel was an artsy design which blew our minds and a perfect location. Loved the PuPuRu mobile wifi provided by IJ and having all train tickets presented to us at Osaka Hotel. The right amount of hand holding and a great surprise hotel, and then Osaka was an independent couple of days. We knew IJ were there to hold our hands, but we were fully prepared and needed no on-trip support.

Then onto Art Islands with private guide Sashi S for two days and two days on our own. Sachi was perfect for us. Gentle, knowledgeable and got us out of crowed situations into peaceful order including getting a ferry when they were full.

What a difference this made to maximising our time and pleasure at Naoshima and Teshima Islands as well as in Takamatsu. 5 nights in JR Clement hotel was so welcome after 12 hours each day of walking up and down hills in some crowded places.
Finally the indulgence was two nights at Asan Kotonami. Forest, tatami,5 star dining included, onsen soaking. The hotel even provided a full set of clothing each day, beautiful tailored elegant wear.
The trip came in under budget and over delivered on quality, experience and surprises.

Mary Dudley, our agent at IJT, was always accessible by phone or email for questions in the lead up which was a great comfort for a beginner traveler. Once in country all the transportation be it bus, train, or taxi were on time on pick up and drop off so no worries about connections, etc. Hotels were conveniently located to scheduled sights and tours. All in all the trip was worry free. I'd book with IJT again for sure.

The whole holiday was so well organised by Inside Japan! All the train and bus tickets were waiting for us at the first hotel along with the portable wi-fi, and the pre-holiday information that we received was so helpful. We couldn't have asked for anything more from Inside Japan and would highly recommend their services to others.

It was great to have a tour guide for half a day when we first arrived - He was able to show us how to work through the train stations which we were very grateful for! It was also very relieving to know that at any moment we could call the support line for assistance as we did have to use this once! We also loved our agent Karin, she was responsive and helpful at answering all of our questions.

Some things to note regarding feedback:
1. Luggage forwarding had different hours of operation we learned. If Insider Japan is booking hotels it would be helpful to have this information included in the info packet!
2. One hotel did not have laundry, though we were informed that all hotels would! This was the hotel that we stayed at in Kyoto.
3. We were not able to refund our Manaca card because we were not in Nagoya. :( Based on all the traveling we did, we think it actually would have been more cost effective if we went with JR pass!

Other than this we truly did love our time so much. It was absolutely perfect, we had a good itinerary but opportunities to go off our set path if we want to be spontaneous. We will definitely be visiting Japan again in the future!!

The trip was wonderful and everthing ran so smoothly. Our guide , Akemi Nozawa, was perfect,well organized,and so very thoughtful. She made the trip !

Superb experience! Inside Japan did a terrific job planning every single detail of our trip, which made for a seamless experience once we got to Japan. I called a lot of agents before speaking to Tristan. We couldn't find a package took us where we wanted to go, we wanted the to explore Japan by ourselves but wanted the reassurance of someone with inside knowledge and to advise us and organise the logistics. Tristan was excellent. I had some ideas of places to visit, things to see and do, Tristan and I had a chat, exchanged a few emails and within a few days, I received an itinerary that included everything I'd had in mind, but quite a lot that fitted the brief, but that I didnt know about despite months of research.
We stayed in 9 different hotels. They were a mixture of modern and traditional. Most hotels were located within walking distance or a short walk from local transport networks and many in walking distance of temples, gardens, districts with character. Spectacular views etc.
I could write an awful lot of good things about Tristan and the team at Inside Japan Tours. Their knowledge, professionalism excellent customer service. The planning, prior to the trip, the support during is all taken care of extremely well. So we knew we were in safe hands and the one tiny glitch we had with our mobile Wi-Fi router (or more accur, my inability to use it properly) was resolved very quickly by their support team.
I can't speak highly enough of the organisation or the faxt that they clearly know inside Japan, inside out and that inside knowledge provided us with some memories of a lifetime that wwe likely would not have seen.
I would recommend anyone thinking of going to Japan. Especially for a bespoke experience like we did to definitely them a try. I personally would recommend them to anyone.

My nephew and I were both visiting Japan for the first time. The one thing we really, really, really wanted to do was watch the sun rise from the summit of Mount Fuji. Since this can be difficult to sort out, I needed help organizing our trip. Our consultant, Joseph Galica, had lived in Japan and hiked Mount Fuji. He listened to what my nephew and I were interested in experiencing, and he put together an AMAZING two-week itinerary. This included independent travel, but some organized transportation and guided tours as well. We will both be going back, and I will definitely be using InsideJapan Tours again.

Inside Japan were incredibly helpful and patient with us right through the whole process from selecting a tour, tailoring it to suit our specific interests and even allowing us to change our minds a few times! The quality of information provided was excellent and all the train, bus and gallery tickets were there waiting for us at our first hotel along with the mobile internet hub. It all went without a hitch and we cannot praise them highly enough.

Although a First World Country the culture is so different it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the experience. But the carefully planned itinerary and the support of the locally based guides made the whole trip enjoyable and memorable. I would love to go back!

My husband and I utilized the expertise of Inside Japans agent Karin Tompkins to customize our Journey and it was Spectacular! Karin asked all the right questions of us to ascertain who we were and what our priorities were in Travel… And after several conversations back-and-forth, she designed two weeks of perfect days and nights! We have traveled extensively, and yet this will rise to the top of our favorite adventures. We will certainly be going back and we will again invite the assistance of insight, Japan that made it seamless and memorable.!

Inside Japan were brilliant. In order to arrange a special 3 week Japan trip I made enquiries of 3 companies. Inside Japan were not only the most responsive, but also the most cost effective.
We discussed their suggestion of where to go as well as my ideas and Will Gooding planned a great itinerary. which he was happy to then discuss and tweak. We were self-guiding - not a tour - and the logistics were brilliantly organised by Will - trains, busses and seats booked; hotels chosen and destination guides giving ideas of what to see and do as well as good "local" information. Inside Japan provides a thoughtful, curated visit to Japan guided by experienced individuals with excellent people skills. It's a good balance of parts of contemporary Japan, as well it's culture and history.
