March 29 I hired them to prepare my 1040 before April 15. Down payment, sent my documents, and then silence. Sent several emails asking if they are going to file tax for me, and each time a form-letter chat bot replied, telling me that April 15 is near and I need to file taxes.

This went on until April 15, when I had given up on them and had stayed up all night filing my own taxes. Then they said they filed for an extension and had finished my taxes, but wouldn't allow me to see even a rough copy to determine if their return was correct.

I asked for a refund, and they finally replied (A human this time) and said they had made no errors and I should pay them.

I really want my money back.

Beware of using this Company. I have used them for 5 years and been satisfied with their service. However they have recently changed their pricing by adding $100 to the basic package which is a 29% increase in price in one year. In addition they have removed a section of work that was previously included and is charging an additional $75 to complete this work. This package is called the “Expanded Income Bundle”. That makes the total increase in price in one year to a 50% increase.

After asking the justification for the increase over and over, all I get is the same company script. Here it is.

The reason TFX charges more for clients with income above $100,000 OR non-wage-related income is due to the increased complexity, compliance requirements, and potential audit risk associated with higher-income returns. Higher income levels often involve additional sources of income such as capital gains, rental properties, self-employment, or foreign investments, each of which requires more detailed reporting, additional forms, and careful tax treatment. The Expanded Income Bundle reflects the additional time, expertise, and scrutiny required to ensure accuracy and compliance with IRS standards. While the Core Package is suitable for simpler returns under $100,000, the pricing tier for the Expanded Income Bundle ensures that clients with more complex financial profiles receive the thorough, tailored service their situation demands.

My circumstances have not changed for the last 5 years. 1. My income is 70% less than $100,000. 2. I had no capital gains. 3. No rental income. 4. No self employment. 5. No foreign investments.

What is the justification for charging for an Expanded Income Bundle? Again, no answer from their “Customer Success” team. What a complete joke that team is. Also their founder, Ines Zemelman, is not obtainable, to speak to or write too, making me wonder how much she is in touch with what is happening in her company.

Having felt that they misrepresented the pricing that I had pre-paid for their basic service, I asked for a full refund of the money on account. They have categorically refused to refund the money, saying the payment is non refundable, even though they broke the contract by changing the pricing I was quoted.

I have found the people I have dealt with to be off hand, and at times bordering on rude. They have no sense of customer care, and obviously have no authority to move from the official “script” for answering questions.
